45 min Inquiry

Today I did a 45 minute inquiry on Curling. Back in the 1940's people used to go out side on a snowy day, the ice ponds would be frozen so the people would throw a stone on the frozen ice pond test if the ice was thick enough to play on. But now it's in the Olympic sports.

Curling is known as chess on ice. When one player from a team of eight and pushes the rock that weighs up to 38 to 40 pounds with a special type of broom or brush and it slides across a long sheet of ice to the target the closer you get to the middle of the target the more points you get for you're team, and the people that are at the other end have special type of shoes that allow them to not slip on the ice.

45 min Inquiry

Today we did a 45 min inquiry and we were doing it on the port of tauranga.

About 6200 logs get imported and 2000 logs are from NewZealand. If they are going over seas then it would be shipped but if the logs where going around the country then it would be trucked or it would go by train.

When the logs get exported to the different countries they get treated and then they manipulate the logs to what ever they want or they sell it on to someone else.

The cycle of the log is it grows from a sapling then it grows into a full tree then they cut it down and plant another sapling and transport the log to a port where they treat it and maybe export it.

45 Min Inquiry

Today we did a 45 min Inquiry and I learned that the boomerangs were made for hunting. To hunt there prey they hold there boomerang above there head and throw it into the prey and it knocks them out.

The totem pole is a sacred piece of art that the indigenous people carve out of the wood of trees.

The whaler boots that the inuit people use to catch their whales and eat there meat and use there fat to burn.

How do you throw a boomerang?
Where did the maori whalers go whaling?
How did the maori people carve there carvings

45 Min Inquiry

Where is Lake Hakanoa?
Could I bow hunt for koi carp in Tauranga?

Last Saturday Mrs Mills went to Huntly to bow hunt for koi carp. She was hunting them because they are a pest. They eat native fish and their eggs. They pollute the water by stirring up the mud and it kills native trees. Koi carp can grow up to 80cm and can weigh up to 10kg.

Mrs Mills went bow hunting last weekend because the koi carp were spawning (breeding) and they come into the shallows to do this.

Bow hunting is a sport that requires a bow and arrow. You also need a line attached to the arrow so you can retrieve the fish and arrow. You do not need a license in NZ to bow hunt. It has been around since the Victorian era.

Mrs Mills caught 6 koi carp. She didn’t throw them back into the water because you can receive a fine.  She left them on the side of the lake and they were taken by some fishermen.

Which button would you push and why?

I would push the grey button because I could lift anything in the world and I would be in the military and be invincible I could crush anything and make a force field of nothing and if something was shot at you, you could just stop it right at your Pam then throw it back at them.

Beyond the Story

I was just about to pay the five dollars cash when the whole roof starts creaking and it starts to move around I run. All of the trolleys start to fall over I don’t look back, I make it out of the exit. I see a tornado just a few yards away I rush into my Lamborghini, start it up, give it 10000 revs and rush off down the street and look into my rear view mirror and countdown blows up I speed up, dodging other cars I get home gather up some food and grab my baker rifle and start heading off again I make a plan in my head that I will go through the city and out into the main highway where the tornado wouldn’t pass. I just get to the start of the city there are no cars I head down a little bit more there is a mob of cars everywhere I decide to back up I look in the rearview mirror there is a mob of cars coming from that way too. So I hop out and climb on the first car and start running on top off all the other cars suddenly it goes quiet I stop, there is a rumble then another, crash! glass shatters then comes in the spinning vortex of doom! parts of buildings, cars even people fly up in the air and get sucked into the the spinning void. Power poles spark and lights burn out, my mind is blank “what to do what to do!” i’m thinking to myself. I start running again this time for my life I slip my leg is stuck in between two cars i can’t get it out. Woosh! it guzzles some people up then I pull extremely hard and my leg come loose from the cars I scream with terror I stagger over some more cars I see the exit the tornado is getting closer and closer I can’t breath I look behind me  I get sucked i’m getting twirled around and around than I  feel calm all of a sudden I close my eyes the tornado stops, I open them “ i’m i’m floating” I look down see a body laying there with a rusted pole though his stomach I tint my head to the side I can just make the out the face of the person “hoaa!” I gasp“ its me
