45 min Inquiry

Today I did a 45 minute inquiry on Curling. Back in the 1940's people used to go out side on a snowy day, the ice ponds would be frozen so the people would throw a stone on the frozen ice pond test if the ice was thick enough to play on. But now it's in the Olympic sports.

Curling is known as chess on ice. When one player from a team of eight and pushes the rock that weighs up to 38 to 40 pounds with a special type of broom or brush and it slides across a long sheet of ice to the target the closer you get to the middle of the target the more points you get for you're team, and the people that are at the other end have special type of shoes that allow them to not slip on the ice.

45 min Inquiry

Today we did a 45 min inquiry and we were doing it on the port of tauranga.

About 6200 logs get imported and 2000 logs are from NewZealand. If they are going over seas then it would be shipped but if the logs where going around the country then it would be trucked or it would go by train.

When the logs get exported to the different countries they get treated and then they manipulate the logs to what ever they want or they sell it on to someone else.

The cycle of the log is it grows from a sapling then it grows into a full tree then they cut it down and plant another sapling and transport the log to a port where they treat it and maybe export it.

45 Min Inquiry

Today we did a 45 min Inquiry and I learned that the boomerangs were made for hunting. To hunt there prey they hold there boomerang above there head and throw it into the prey and it knocks them out.

The totem pole is a sacred piece of art that the indigenous people carve out of the wood of trees.

The whaler boots that the inuit people use to catch their whales and eat there meat and use there fat to burn.

How do you throw a boomerang?
Where did the maori whalers go whaling?
How did the maori people carve there carvings

45 Min Inquiry

Where is Lake Hakanoa?
Could I bow hunt for koi carp in Tauranga?

Last Saturday Mrs Mills went to Huntly to bow hunt for koi carp. She was hunting them because they are a pest. They eat native fish and their eggs. They pollute the water by stirring up the mud and it kills native trees. Koi carp can grow up to 80cm and can weigh up to 10kg.

Mrs Mills went bow hunting last weekend because the koi carp were spawning (breeding) and they come into the shallows to do this.

Bow hunting is a sport that requires a bow and arrow. You also need a line attached to the arrow so you can retrieve the fish and arrow. You do not need a license in NZ to bow hunt. It has been around since the Victorian era.

Mrs Mills caught 6 koi carp. She didn’t throw them back into the water because you can receive a fine.  She left them on the side of the lake and they were taken by some fishermen.

Which button would you push and why?

I would push the grey button because I could lift anything in the world and I would be in the military and be invincible I could crush anything and make a force field of nothing and if something was shot at you, you could just stop it right at your Pam then throw it back at them.

Beyond the Story

I was just about to pay the five dollars cash when the whole roof starts creaking and it starts to move around I run. All of the trolleys start to fall over I don’t look back, I make it out of the exit. I see a tornado just a few yards away I rush into my Lamborghini, start it up, give it 10000 revs and rush off down the street and look into my rear view mirror and countdown blows up I speed up, dodging other cars I get home gather up some food and grab my baker rifle and start heading off again I make a plan in my head that I will go through the city and out into the main highway where the tornado wouldn’t pass. I just get to the start of the city there are no cars I head down a little bit more there is a mob of cars everywhere I decide to back up I look in the rearview mirror there is a mob of cars coming from that way too. So I hop out and climb on the first car and start running on top off all the other cars suddenly it goes quiet I stop, there is a rumble then another, crash! glass shatters then comes in the spinning vortex of doom! parts of buildings, cars even people fly up in the air and get sucked into the the spinning void. Power poles spark and lights burn out, my mind is blank “what to do what to do!” i’m thinking to myself. I start running again this time for my life I slip my leg is stuck in between two cars i can’t get it out. Woosh! it guzzles some people up then I pull extremely hard and my leg come loose from the cars I scream with terror I stagger over some more cars I see the exit the tornado is getting closer and closer I can’t breath I look behind me  I get sucked i’m getting twirled around and around than I  feel calm all of a sudden I close my eyes the tornado stops, I open them “ i’m i’m floating” I look down see a body laying there with a rusted pole though his stomach I tint my head to the side I can just make the out the face of the person “hoaa!” I gasp“ its me

Wiamarino

Recount on Waimarino

Why should others go to Waimarino?

Because, it is a great big water park where you will have heaps of fun the people are really nice and there are lots of activities just make sure you don't say the swear words there like cold, freezing and can't. They have put a new obstacle in the park called the UFO and it is so fun. There is four different types of obstacles the little blob, slide, Log and the Tramp in the middle. Also if your really desperate for some warm water there is a warm pool round enough for a whirl pool. If you want some adrenaline running through your system get lined up for the BLOB when you jump off that diving board you plunger your opponent into the water then you climb up to the other end and get ready to blast off into the water heres a tip don't belly flop other wise your going to come out of the water like a winded pink pig.

How I used the key competencies:

By managing myself I kept my gear all together and made sure that it didn't get mixed up with someone else's.

How I related to others is I thought about the people that couldn't do some activities and that was really scared.

Why do bees swarm?

Today a swarm of bees came into our school and are nesting. I've done some research on Why do bees swarm? Well what happens is the scout bees go and try and find a new place to nest in. These Bees have nested on a little not quite yet grown rose bush so all of the Worker bees, Queen bee, Scout bees and another thing I have Found out is that you can walk though a swarm of bees without getting stung unless provoked.

One fact about hearing is that frogs can re-grow there hairs for there ears.

Something I have learned today is that anything over 85Db can harm your ears.

now anything I listen to I will turn it down and make sure it is safe.

Homework

For homework I Have taught Ryan how to play his new harry potter game he said thank you for it and I now sometimes play with him.

On april 6 I went with my dad on a walk for 6 hours and at 10 at night we made it to our destination and got camp set up and the next day I got the camera and took photos of every person that went past there were a few ingress but they were ok.

I have visited my grandparents 8 times in one term and when ever I went to viset her she would always give my food or some jeans.

Most triumphant tale

On Thursday 5 July I went to the school production.

My favorite part of production is when star man came on stage and he had a cool voice and a awesome costume.

The dancing was awesome especially at the end of the production because this person did a round off flip and a hammer flip then they all came and bowed. The Stage than any other stage I have ever seen.

It was about a band that broke apart and then two boys had to travel back in time to get really good musicians and they got a keyboard person. Guitarist and they just needed a singer to finnish there journey but then there old singer comes back and they have a band battle because if they don't win in the future there were only going to be lip sinkers .

CSI Reading

I was in a tsunami I survived and got washed up onto a island With a crossbow on my right arm and a round cylinder barrel with arrows in it strapped to my arm. I got up and checked that my Gladius (Roman sword) was still on my back I looked around and look for any signs of humanity. I looked back at the sea and there was no land, so I climbed the first tree I could find. It looked like there were one thousand yards of green bush and rocky mountains. It was getting dark I made a bivouac for the night I couldn't get to sleep with all the rustling between the trees, I closed my eyes and finally drifted off to sleep. I had a dream that my family was with me in a cave all strapped up and looking around as if they were trying to warn me about something. I turned around there was a big flash I suddenly woke up with a fright I pretended like nothing had happened. I went off to find something to eat and there I saw were a pile of grub climbing all over each other on a wooden log I wasn’t a big fan of grub but I needed the energy. There were noises coming from the shore I ran as fast as I could just finding seagulls pecking at cardboard boxes,
that had washed up onto shore. I looked inside of one and there was some bait I went to the second one I found a letter saying.

Dear kate I will be home soon I’m half way across the pacific ocean. We have already caught a lot of fish my friend jeremy accidentally pulled up a octopus I was a big job to get off board but we handled it so hope you are doing well.
you’re sincerely Mat

Cemetery Invesigation

At the cemetery:

This it the link to the website: ANGLICAN

I learned at the Anglican Cemetery that it was sacred. Most of the concrete on top of the coffins was broken. The latest person to die that I saw was in 2011. Also there were quite a lot of accidentally killed people.

Camp happenings

Camp Happenings

The funniest happening on camp was....
When Jessica was eating for the clash of the camp and when she finished eating she had tomato sauce and cream all over her face and she felt really sick afterwards.

The biggest challenge on camp was....
Making the bivouac because we didn’t know where to put it and at night I got pushed out side of the bivouac and got cold and found Braden at my feet and then it started to rain and then we had to abandon the bivouac at 5:30 in the morning.

The scariest happening on camp was....
When the chainsaw went off during the burma trail I got a fright from the girls screaming right in my ear but when I slid my hand across the rope I felt something hairy it was a bossem I didn’t get a fright I thought it was pretty cool.

The most exhausting moment was …...
When the boys had to run to the fence and back two times then they had to do really hard push ups but in the end they were Travis’s clothes.

The most embarrassing moment was....
When I spilt my milk on my top without noticing and then I went to get seconds then I noticed that I had milk all over my top then I went to go get changed and saw droplets of milk on the floor of the bunk room so I got the cloth and cleaned it up before anyone knew.

The most dangerous moment was....
When Kye fell off his bike and he went down the hill and into the soft grass but he nearly hit the thorns.

3 things I learnt
1.To change gears when riding a bike.
2.To never get on mr harts bad side.
3.That if you smile you get to go have food first.
2 things I was surprised about
1.That I was 3 seconds away from Lockies kayak record
2.That I almost went though all my clothes
I question I still have
Do we get to play paintball again.

What I found for the most popular dinner is the hamburgers because 23 people liked them.
For the least favorite dinner was the sausage and veggies only 6 people liked it.

For lunch the most popular food was the hotdogs 21 people liked them.
The least favorite food was the own lunch on monday.

And the overall favourite food is toast and spaghetti 25 people liked it.

Thursday, 11 April 2013

In total I have done for the physical activity 136 KM from biking to school and back I found this out by going on google maps and it tells you how far you have gone from a pacific destination.

Palliation

This article is about the the creatures that have been harmed by the laziness of humans not recycling. The purpose of a plastic bag is huge but they are 95% harmful to seabirds and marine creatures. But that is not the only thing that is harming the creatures on this planet there are other plastics small, big but when the birds eat them they're immune system goes from 90% to about 50% then they die from having their digestive system block from plastic.

Swimming Sports

In swimming sports I got fourth in most of them but in backstroke I got 2nd and I did all of the heats exempt two.

That clouds form from water vapour.
That water is very important.

Benefits of working with a partner: It made it easier to understand about the water cycle
because we had different ideas and that It was fun.
